Applied games

Make the challenge playable.

We turn training, onboarding and complex decisions into games people can understand, try and talk about.

10+ years in games · A playable first version in days

Some things are easier to understand when you can play them.

  • Training that people currently click through
  • Onboarding that explains information but doesn’t build confidence
  • Complicated decisions with competing consequences
  • Policies or processes that need discussion
  • Campaigns and events that need active participation

Not every problem wants a game. If yours does not, we will say so — and still leave you with a clearer brief.

From messy problem to playable proof

One behaviour, one small experience, one honest look at what people do with it.

  1. 01

    Understand

Find the behaviour, decision or conversation that matters.

  2. 02

    Build

Put the smallest polished version in someone’s hands.

  3. 03

    Test

Watch what people understand and do — not what they say.

  4. 04

    Decide

Improve it, take it to production, or stop with useful evidence.

Start small. Commit later.

Three steps, each one earning the next. You never buy production before people have played the prototype.

  1. Step 1 · if the challenge is fuzzy

    Discovery workshop

    €750 – €1,500excluding VAT · credited toward a sprint

    • A half or full day with your team
    • The one behaviour or decision worth testing
    • A written brief and a sprint quote
    Book a workshop
  2. Start here

    Step 2 · the prototype

    Validation sprint

    €5,000 – €7,500excluding VAT · fixed scope · 50% upfront

    • A playable browser prototype in ten working days
    • One review round and a small user test
    • A recommendation: improve, expand or stop
    Scope a sprint
  3. Step 3 · only if it works

    Full production

Quoted after the prototypescope set by what players actually did

    • Content, polish and rollout
    • Hosting, analytics and support
    • Priced once the prototype has proved the idea
    Talk production

Prices are indicative and exclude VAT. The workshop fee is deducted from a sprint booked afterwards.

What we can already put in people’s hands

Applied case studies will land here as the first engagements finish. Until then, these are original JoTo games and studio capabilities — not client projects.

One television, every phone a controller. The room sees the same thing, and each person still has a private decision. Useful when a group has to argue a choice out loud.

How we test

Watch, then decide

We write the question before the session. We watch what people actually do, not what they say they understood. The next bet is a verdict, not a vibe.

Independent, experienced, and hands-on.

JoTo is an independent game studio led by Tom, a game designer and developer with more than ten years of industry experience. He has worked across studios, entrepreneurship programmes and incubators including Dutch Game Garden and Game Brussels.

Every engagement is led directly by Tom, supported by JoTo’s production and automation pipeline. You get experienced judgment and a working prototype quickly — without pretending this is a large agency.

Straight answers

Do we have to commit to a production?

No. The first paid step is a workshop or a validation sprint. Production is a separate decision, quoted after people have tried the prototype.

Workshop or sprint — where do we start?

If you can name the behaviour or decision you want to change, start with the sprint. If the challenge is still fuzzy, the workshop sharpens it, and its fee comes off the sprint.

What do we actually get after ten days?

A browser prototype you can send as a link, notes from a small user test, and a written recommendation: improve, expand, or stop.

What if a game is the wrong tool?

We will say so. The conversation is still useful: you leave with a clearer picture of the behaviour you wanted to change.

Can you partner with our agency or L&D team?

Yes. JoTo can be the game-development partner inside a larger programme. You keep the relationship with your organisation; we make the thing playable.

Is this gamification?

No. We do not bolt points onto a slide deck. We model a decision or a conversation so people can try it.

What would become clearer if people could play it?

Tell us about the behaviour, decision or conversation you want to change. We’ll tell you honestly whether a game is a useful way to approach it.

Sending this does not create a commitment. We reply within two working days. Read the privacy policy.
